On A Mission
As I sat there at the beautifully decorated dining room table surrounded by my husband and friends, I tried to take it all in. From the sparkling lights to the delicious food to the speakers and entertainment, it was a wonderful evening. We were gathered together with about 230 guests to support an organization that I care deeply for, Great River Faith in Action.
Great River Faith in Action is a nonprofit located in Becker, Minnesota. Their mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving the elderly and struggling families/individuals in central Minnesota. Their primary goal is to help the elderly remain independently in their homes for as long as possible.
As a small organization with only four employees, they depend deeply on volunteers willing to generously give their time to help others. These volunteers give seniors rides to the grocery store, doctors office and other crucial places, provide light housekeeping in their homes, perform yard work like snow removal and leaf raking, and do small home repairs. In addition, they deliver furniture and household goods to those going through a tough time.
Putting Others First
Throughout last year I had come to know and love this organization. It’s people cared more about the lives of others than they did for themselves. These were my kind of people. Back in December of 2017, I had reached out to them to see if they could use a volunteer to help with marketing. They did, and over the next year I helped create brochures and newsletters, managed their social media, designed a new website, and more.
Changing the World
Although I know they appreciated my help, I benefited from the work even more. It felt great to be able to give back to an organization that was helping so many others. I have no doubt God drew me to them when they needed it most, and to spark a fire in me. He used this opportunity as a stepping stone to help more organizations on a mission to change the world one person at a time.
